Autumn in Wallingford

here's some photo's i took on a recent excursion in nearby wooded area where i live/work.  since fostering a dog these walk/runs have become customary...it suits us both.

eXistenZ

nothing to do tonight? feel like a movie?  maybe a fantasy? want to step through the veil into another place?  well may i recommend the movie, 'eXistenZ'?  capital X. capital Z.
this sci-fi show will transport you and your multi-dimensional selves to a place down in the back and around the corner.  after a comfortable while you may find returning to your place of familiarity may not seem, so real.  like a lucid dream that becomes more and more convincing, your body self may feel less and less, tangible, leaving you questioning where and who you are with genuine attention for what is reality anyway?

Autumn BooK

been working exclusively in my drawing journals as of late; accumulating imagery, thoughts, gathering courage... the immediacy and comfort of working in transient mobile handy dandy object format has been suiting me.  admittedly i'm wanting immediate gratification in the studio, quick, hurried results. if i'm not liking something, turn the page, i can always come back to it later..which i do with unabashed hacking and chewing usually.

one of these days soon i feel i may put my sights to a piece of paper not already folded or part of my journal...i'm going to cut into little pieces.

In Dreams

In 2037 an Alien spacecraft hovers over Western Arizona absorbs 23 humans around dusk taking lucky travel party on cosmic whirl wind extravaganza sight seeing exotic new terrain never before conceived.  The abductees wine dine lap of luxury butter lace plush spread deep breath massage panorama terrace endless viewscapes waterfall sun showers best underground films you've never seen or heard of transported to another galaxy 10 million light years away and brought to live on Alien planet and honey lovers.  Here the humans are taught many extraordinary things which they could not do on Earth like how to read a book by putting it up to your cheek and closing your eyes Or how to bake a cake in the shower and eat it to.
They lost track of time and fell into the magic night.

That's good

in case you didn't know DeVo has a new album after 20 some years.  that's right , you know em', or you don't, as the band of 'whip it' fame with the plastic ziggurat head gear from the 80's. yep, they made a new album that kicks butts.  seems they came back together to whip our psychic head gear back into shape. lost our way, again?
sharpen your ears & listen up, they're not just jerking us back and forth. they have a message...and they make artsy mindful videos.

THe Faces In The Paper

I think it was Michelangelo who talked about how he would see 'the figures' he sculpted out of the marble already being there, that he merely had to free them by chipping away the marble block.

ConnecTED

TED has many many fascinating lectures available to inspire and thoughtfully provoke your brain and provide one with hope that we actually can make it together on this planet despite what one might be perceiving if all the 'news' one knew about was what they were ingesting from the mainstream 'news'.  (I always cringe when I think fear, rape, famine, disease, gun violence, fear is noted as 'news'.  What about all the positive things being discovered everyday by people around the world?  Wonder?)

This one I just watched and was particularly moved by it. I'll let you experience her topic for yourself.

I feel it's something powerful to keep in mind.

Been working on scattered things in the studio.  Not keeping my usual routine.  Decorating in three dimensions.  Details coming.

AOS

I still kick myself for not buying that Austin Osman Spare book I looked through in some small occult bookstore somewhere in Atlanta so many years ago.  I had only heard of him at that time but never seen his work printed before.  I was mesmerized by his line work and imagery and felt affinity beyond his name; for his vision.  His art beckons beyond the material, into spirit worlds, and returns with magnificent manifestations of his invocations.

Over the years I've noticed an increase in available material of his work both online and print.  When before I barely found one website featuring a couple pieces of his work, to now there being several poor youtube slideshows and a modicum of websites.  Now I can't afford the nice books they print of his in the United Kingdom.  I hope to find some used in some small remote bookstore someday, somewhere, ...somehow...someway...(segue into song)

time move fast like cheetah

Wow I'm back in one piece and that trip was too short!  I know that's what we always say when we return from a vacation get away from the day-to-day, but no really, that was too short...where'd it go?  Sun + Fun and time is like a cheetah with eyes on the prize in open safari. . .  Had I not forgotten my camera at Los' place night two I would have some pictures to show you right now but as I seem to be a absent minded, (hey it was the morning and my brain was two steps in the ocean) scatterbrain, no such luck for you.  Don't cry, I have other sources. My Ever reliable Mother shot the shots to ease your curious eyes with her camera constant...you just have to wait till she gets back to work, which I can attest, she won't be rushin.

Moving on, checking through some of the sites I frequent I see there's lots of exciting shows coming up in NYC soon that I'm humming to take a trip for including one by my very coordinated dance partner and who knew, artist, Christopher Davison, sharing the bill with fellow distinguished UCF alumni, Kristopher Porter.  Hope I can make the opening guys!
Also sure not to miss shows are, one of my favorite artist's who I've never met or danced with for that matter, Fred Tomaselli at Brooklyn Museum.  and just found out about this artist Lori Field but damn if you don't see me jotting down the dates for this show in my planner rrrright now.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?

"The woman who can create her own job is the woman who will win fame and fortune."

"The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward."

"...decide...whether or not the goal is worth the risks involved. If it is, stop worrying...."

"Never interrupt someone doing something you said couldn't be done."

Lapdog

In an effort to get back to what this blog was originally intended to be about, I'm planning on posting more regularly things I'm working on each day.

These may not be any epic, realized, master works here, it'll be more about the day to day, the dailies I'll call them.

Cuba Libre

During this time of recognizing Independence in our country I got to thinking about the little island just off the southern coast of our beloved continent, Cuba.  My mother was born and lived in Cuba for the first 10 years of her life and like so many others, left when Fidel Castro took over.

I am very proud of my Cuban heritage and hope one day to visit this mysterious and largely unknown to me island I have only heard stories about or seen family pictures of.

My Uncle made a video recently for a family reunion and in it he included this touching little diddy with Andy Garcia narrating about his love for Cuba.  For me it was enjoyable to live for a moment in false memories of a place I feel connected to.  For you, it might not, but it goes in accordance with the theme of this blog post to ponder this place of neglect and isolation, that has been cut off from the world for such a long time, during this festive time of remembrance of our own freedoms.

I wonder what will happen with Cuba as a place, a heritage, a culture when its current regime is gone?

warm house

so i had a housewarming party last saturday, the 19th, and my friend jim c. of soupcooler fame made a tripped out video compilation of the event.

Guard

i've kind of been keeping my ear's pointed for any available, cool, dogs (i mean four legged kind) to give a loving home to.   i have loads of space around me now for it to roam and be a dog, and although i probably couldn't afford it anyway, i've been looking at bred dogs.  one thing i haven't seen brought up in any of my searches however, and am curious about because i'd really like it is, if you're looking for a dog from a reputable dog breeder and the dog you really want has three heads, do you get charged for three dogs or is that one dog price? cause i'm looking for a three headed dog to guard over my place when i'm sleeping.

it'd be extra cool if at least one of the heads could blow fire from its nostrils!  if you hear of one let me know.  i'd even drive out of state for a three headed dog with the fire option.

Pan Diario Pages

Was working in a smaller book this time, about 5x7x1', cutting and pasting found images from old national geographics and random stuff I found around.  Here's some scans of some of the pages.  I call this one, Pan Diario.

you're riding in a car, southwest usa. grand canyon to be exact...

i've always enjoyed old radio show broadcast's, especially the spooky ones, with wind, and creeky hinged door sounds. the ones where they'd create the sounds using handmade or constructed objects. ie. a real person walking over gravel to imitate a person walking over gravel, shaking metal sheeting to conjure thunder..

it was a time before television, when the listening, (not necessarily watching) audience were forced to use a bit more of their imagination; to fill in the moods and atmospheres suggested by mere dialogue and sound effects.

i was reading a bit from one of my journal entries recently, something i'd reflected on, about a family vacation some years back. feeling a bit melancholic, with the company of a couple glasses of white wine, i got to wandering about recording my voice. it was a rainy sunday, mid-afternoon, so i started reading aloud..

garLic tIts

Earlier this year I initiated a collaborative accordion style drawing book with mi comrade, Gabriel Turner Bryne upon his return trip (first one) from Germany.  We worked on it for about six months during intermittent visits to our Local 44 or during drawing sessions with assorted company.
Upon his second departure we called it quits on the project feeling pleased with the ground covered.

I recently scanned it for commemorative sake.  It measures 5"x118".  double sided.

Here's the long and...

...short of it.
