San Francisco Chronicles

Some pictures from my recent San Francisco trip; proof I was actually there.

Archive from October 6, 2009:

I had the great joy of spending last week in San Francisco visiting my lovely sister.  It was a relaxing, happy week of ideal weather which made it perfect for walking around and getting to see a different part of the city everyday; thank you sunny, but not humid weather.  Throughout the trip I carried around a small drawing book to pass the time in buses and trains, going from place to place, in bars, restaurants…to keep the mind and hand limber while away from the studio.
I realize that none of the drawings depict being in San Francisco. They could have been drawn anywhere, which is for better or worse?  I promise I was there, people saw me.  Guess it goes to show how much I’m not really interested in drawing from the world of appearance these days…it’s like playing the game ‘I Spy’, but interiorized.

Eat Your Feedback

Ever wonder what you'd taste like if you were served on a plate?  How you sound to others in conversation with people who have never met you?  How you are received based on what you say, or more superficially, how you dress can sometimes be shockingly counter to how you think or see yourself.  Sure you're fairly well acquainted with yourself but ever step out of that perception to take in another person's point of view?  If not, you probably well should.  I recommend putting up the objective mirror on yourself to see where you stand. You know what's NOT like that?...a television set.  Those things sure dish out a lot of mind numbing waste!  They never self-reflect.

These guys are on the march against television.  They represent the imagination with all its multi-faceted mysterious manifestations.  You see it is the television box in your very home that dulls your imagination and turns minds into gelatinous fodder till eventually your only good for pumping gas and listening to gummy 'music' sounds, or buying jeans with holes in them...you're buying clothes that have holes in them!!  Stay sharp people, they're coming for your very sense of self!

The Yellow Pages

The Yellow Pages are yellow pieces of paper with collage material as well as some hand drawing on them.  They are a catalogue, or collection of disparate images I found interesting at one time in the past that I thought I'd like to use in the future.  The pieces you see in The Yellow Pages made it all the way to the finish line.

Collaboration

For the past few months I've been working in tandem with another artist here in Philadelphia, her name is Joy Payton, she also goes by; Joy Balls, DotoGreen, I sometimes refer to her as, Joy Balls to the Walter Payton.  She has a healthy sense of humor.
We're working on a book of drawings together right now as well as some individual pieces in between while the other has the book.  Here's one of the more recent accordion layouts we did:

I think our styles mix well together so I'm pretty excited about seeing what we do in the future.  More to come.
